Zurich Classic of New Orleans Golf PGA Tour Preview

The PGA Tour is in Louisiana this week for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Jason Bohn defends the title and Britain will be well represented with Luke Donald, Graeme McDowell and Justin Rose in the field.
One of the oldest events on the PGA Tour, the New Orleans Open was first contested in 1939. Over the years the tournament has produced a diverse selection of victors - nine different nations have been represented in the winner's circle over the last 25 years. Given the cultural melting pot that is the city of New Orleans, such variation seems appropriate.
Last season Jason Bohn produced four excellent rounds to set a tournament record total of 18-under-par. The American finished two clear of Jeff Overton.
TPC Louisiana was altered dramatically by original designer Pete Dye after the 2005 tournament. Many of his changes involved adding hazards to demand a more strategic approach. It's a course where precision is essential. The greens are relatively large but they are undulating and it's vital to leave yourself on the right side of the flag. With dry conditions forecast, the playing surfaces could become firm, heightening the test.

Venue: TPC Louisiana, Avondale, Louisiana
Date: April 28 - May 1
Course stats: par 72, 7,341 yards
Purse: $6,400,000, Winner: $1,116,000
Defending Champion: Jason Bohn (-18)

TV Coverage:
Thursday 28 - Live on Sky Sports 3 from 8pm
Friday 29 - Live on Sky Sports 3 from 8pm
Saturday 30 - Live on Sky Sports 3 from 9pm
Sunday 1 - Live on Sky Sports 3 from 8pm

Player Watch:
Luke Donald - The Englishman will look to get over the disappointment of missing out last week in a playoff for The Heritage by securing a victory here.

Nick Watney - He's been on fantastic form this year and he won this event in 2007. He has five top-10 finishes already this season, expect this to be his sixth.

Brandt Snedeker - One of the Tour's best putters, he should cope well with the undulating greens at TPC Louisiana. He won last week, posting a superb closing round of 64, he'll look to continue to ride that wave.

Key Hole: 6th. A 476 yard par 4 that requires a long straight drive before the hole turns straight left to leave a long iron or fairway wood to the green. It generally ranks as the toughest hole on the course.

Skills required: Course management. The winner will carefully plot his way round this re-designed layout. Bludgeoning it with the driver is not always the most prudent option.

All three are ranked inside the top 20 of the Official World Golf Ranking -- which is impressive, to say the least. At the same time, though, world No. 6 Graeme McDowell, No. 14 Ernie Els and No. 16 Ian Poulter have all come to Hilton Head looking to get their 2011 seasons back on a roll. The three veterans, who are paired together during the first two rounds of The Heritage, certainly haven't played poorly this year. They just haven't met their expectations yet -- and there's no time like the present to start. The Heritage marks roughly the midway point of the PGA TOUR's regular season. The season's first major has come and gone, too, and THE PLAYERS Championship is three weeks on the horizon. So there's a lot to play for, and Els, McDowell and Poulter want to be ready. Pete Dye's Harbour Town Golf Links is a course that tends to favor veterans, too, so it could be a good place to start. Of the three, Els has the best track record on this stunning links beside the Calibogue Sound. He's playing in The Heritage for the 12th times and has posted seven top-10s, including second to Boo Weekley in 2007 and a pair of thirds. Els, who will be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in three weeks, hasn't been able to rekindle the fire that saw him pick up two victories by this time last year. He's yet to post a top-10 in 2011 and the man who was leading the FedExCup at this juncture a year ago currently ranks 85th. McDowell and Poulter, on the other hand, have never had much success at Harbour Town -- and are returning for the first time since 2006. Poulter's best finish at Hilton Head in four starts is a tie for 47th in his last appearance while McDowell's is joint 70th in 2005. Four years is a long time, though, and McDowell and Poulter are surely better equipped to handle Harbour Town's tight fairways and small greens now. Poulter was ranked 71st and McDowell 88th the last time the two played in The Heritage.

McDowell returns this week as the reigning U.S. Open champion. He's missed his last two cuts on TOUR -- including at the Masters -- but he started the season with three consecutive top-10s so the form is there. Poulter, ever the consistent one, has yet to miss a cut this year. His best finish came in his first start, a tie for sixth at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, but he did fare the best of the three at Augusta National in a tie for 27th. So, don't miss this event Watch and enjoy the live stream online broadcast of live tv channel and get further information and you will Watch all of the events. History of The Heritage.

Established in 1967 the Harbour Town Golf Links course was designed by Pete Dye in consultation with Jack Nicklaus. This golf course established the permanent site of the rechartering of the oldest golf club in South Carolina and possibly the United States - the South Carolina Golf Club. Harbour Town is recognized annually as one of America's top courses. The course is open all year, even during overseeding in October and the aerating of the greens in June, July, and August. Guests are allowed to play the course, however everyone must have a tee time.

The course is a par 71 from all three sets of tees. From the back tees, or heritage tees, the course measures 6,973 yards with a slope rating of 75.2/146. From the men's (champion) tees, the course measures 6,603 yards and has a slope rating of 72.9/139. From the men's (white) tees the course measures 6,119 yards and has a slope rating of 69.9/130. From the women's (green) tees, the course measures 5,208 yards with a slope rating of 70.7/124.
